In 1993, the Labour Court recommended a phased pay increase for employees of Munster Electronics: 3% from 1 October 1993 and a further 1% from 1 January 1994. The recommendation was dated 23 December 1993. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the 3% increase under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress from January 1993. The company cited trading difficulties and said it could not afford the full increase. The Court said employees were entitled to expect payment from the due dates but noted the company’s precarious financial position. It also recommended a review of the company’s finances and outstanding PESP payments on 1 April 1994.
