In 1993, the Labour Court recommended a revised pay relationship for two projectionists in the Department Of Justice’s Film Censor’s Office. The recommendation was dated 23 December 1993. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought an upgrade, citing increased workloads linked to legislation and proposed changes to the office. The Department accepted the jobs would be affected by new legislation but said it could not negotiate before the office restructuring was announced. The Court recommended that a projectionist’s rate be 80% of the craft workers’ rate, with the chief projectionist receiving a 15% differential above that. Implementation was subject to the PESP and changes to work practices and office structures; the parties were to discuss the balance of the increase and when it would take effect.
