In 1991, the Labour Court recommended an electricity allowance of 40 units for three Waterford Corporation caretakers. The recommendation was signed on 7 October 1991. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought an increase to 2.50% of basic pay, arguing the electricity used in caretaking duties benefited the Corporation. The Court agreed that some of the electricity used benefited the employer and recommended the allowance to that extent.
