Labour Court recommends conceding union’s redundancy-terms claim against B.P. Oil

The Labour Court recommended conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for improved redundancy terms for a worker at B.P. Oil (Ireland) Limited. The recommendation was signed on 17 December 1990. The worker had 11 years’ service and had moved from Dublin to a depot superintendent role in Limerick. The union sought terms matching those given to Dublin Airport workers, arguing the alternative Dublin position was not clearly defined and relocation would increase the worker’s costs. The Court found merit in the union’s case.
