In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Aer Rianta's proposed assessment be used to consider the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's wage claim for four catering storemen at Shannon Airport. The recommendation was signed on 13 December 1990. The union sought a pay increase, arguing the workers should be linked to comparable Aer Lingus staff or have pay differences eliminated. Aer Rianta said an assessment on the lines of one conducted in 1985 was appropriate. The Court said no established pay relativity existed for the group and recommended that the assessment include union input, with details of the basis of the final outcome provided to the union.
