Labour Court rejects union claim for productivity negotiations at Mayo County Council

By Niamh Kearney

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended against the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for local negotiations on a productivity bonus for Mayo County Council plant operators and drivers. The recommendation was signed on 7 June 1990. The union said staffing cuts had added record-keeping and manual work, and argued that a 1978 agreement allowed local productivity negotiations. The Council said local talks would conflict with national efforts to rationalise pay rates. The Court said Mayo County Council could not isolate itself from those efforts.
