Labour Court does not recommend driver’s rest-time payment claim

By Fionn Kelly

Labour Court ·

In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding an Irish Transport and General Workers Union claim against Bus Eireann for payment for a driver’s rest time on special duties. The recommendation was signed on 19 September 1989. The union argued a 1981 agreement entitled a spare driver to payment for breaks exceeding two hours and a 20% bonus. Bus Eireann said the duties were private-hire and waybill specials, covered by a different agreement, and that the driver did not qualify for the claimed payment. The Court considered both sides’ submissions and did not recommend conceding the claim.
