Labour Court backs early-start overtime claim at Yeast Products

The Labour Court recommended that Yeast Products Ltd concede the Irish Transport And General Workers Union's claim for double-time pay for early starts. It did not recommend conceding claims for sick pay or VHI contributions, recommended negotiations on a pension scheme, and recommended no change to holiday-pay arrangements. The recommendation was signed on 18 May 1989. The Court said the 1985 overtime clause was ambiguous and the company's interpretation implied an unreasonable floating start time. It said the agreed holiday-pay arrangement and the Programme for National Recovery ruled out further cost-increasing claims.
