The Labour Court did not recommend fixed starting and finishing times sought by the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union for hourly paid bacon workers at Kerry Foods Limited, saying deliveries needed to suit customers. It recommended increasing the rate for continuous night work to £157.50 for night loaders. The recommendation was signed on 25 October 1988. The union had also sought a higher shift premium for night loaders, while Kerry Foods said their hours and pay had been agreed.
Labour Court rejects union’s fixed-hours claim and raises night-loader rate to £157.50
