In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that R & H. Hall pay £250 compensation to a worker who lost temporary employment at a grain silo after Merchants Warehousing was taken over. The recommendation was signed on 25 October 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union had sought his retention in employment and compensation, arguing that an agreement covered his work until the tower operation ended. R & H. Hall said the worker remained employed by Merchants Warehousing and that its takeover and the worker's redundancy ended the secondment arrangement. The Court agreed that the takeover and termination ended the formal temporary-employment agreement. However, it noted that R & H. Hall had continued the other tower operator's temporary employment, found the worker unfairly treated and recommended compensation for the lost silo work.
