In 1988, the Labour Court recommended a tonnage rate of 2.4 pence per ton for four cranemen at Stafford Shipping Ltd., with the £40 tea payment continuing. The Irish Transport And General Workers Union had sought a higher rate and inclusion of tonnage payments in holiday pay. The Court also recommended that holiday pay include basic and bonus payments for a normal working week, and that each claimant receive £500 in full and final settlement of arrears. The recommendation was signed on 4 October 1988.
