Labour Court recommends torque spanners for tyre changes during docking

By Fionn Kelly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Bus Eireann engineering operatives use torque spanners when needed to complete a tyre change, including during docking. The recommendation was signed on 27 September 1988. The dispute concerned the Galway garage. The National Busworkers Union said operatives had accepted using the tools within company limits but objected to using them during docking. Bus Eireann said changing wheels in all situations was part of the operatives’ duties and that a previous submission excluding docking use had been an error. The Court noted that garage mechanics were already expected to use torque spanners as required.
