In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that a gardener and maintenance worker at St. Josephs Hospital, Cork be placed at point two of group five. The recommendation was signed on 8 March 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought an upgrade, arguing the worker’s gardening and maintenance duties suited group five. St. Josephs Hospital, Cork said the worker was correctly graded in group one and performed only minor maintenance work. The Court found the work appropriate to group five and recommended placement at point two of that scale.
