The Labour Court recommended a 5.2 per cent pay increase for Penn Chemicals B.V. workers, covering 1 December 1986 to 30 November 1987. The recommendation was signed on 4 December 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union had sought a 12 per cent increase and additional leave. The Court recommended that Penn Chemicals’ offer to improve voluntary health insurance be accepted, and said the company should consider the union’s extra annual-leave claim during talks on phasing out the existing holiday-cover arrangement. It did not recommend conceding the claim for more compassionate leave.
