Labour Court does not recommend retaining worker at Irish Industrial Gases

In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers Union's claim to retain a Cylinder Recovery Officer based in Cork at Irish Industrial Gases Limited. The recommendation was signed on 3 December 1987. The union argued the role remained necessary and that removing the Cork officer would impair operations and burden the two officers in Dublin. The company said it understood a conciliation agreement to require its redundancy plan to be completed by 31 July 1987, and considered the Cork function redundant. The Court cited the terms of that agreement in its recommendation.
