In 1987, the Labour Court recommended two £4 weekly increases in basic pay for approximately 750 workers at Avonmore Creameries Limited, one from 1 July 1987 and another from 1 April 1988. The agreement was to expire on 31 December 1988. The recommendation was signed on 3 December 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union had sought £15 or an 8% weekly increase, whichever was greater, a dairy-industry bonus converted to a flat-rate payment, and the elimination of grade 3. The Court did not recommend conceding the bonus claim, citing the prevailing financial circumstances, or the grade 3 claim.
