In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that a tanker driver at Texaco (Ireland) Limited agree to see the company doctor before resuming work. The recommendation was signed on 27 November 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (No. 1 Branch) disputed the company's requirement after the driver had been cleared to return by his own doctor and a psychiatrist. The Court said Texaco had not acted unreasonably and recommended that the driver see its doctor before returning to driving duties.
