The Labour Court recommended a six-month pay pause, a gross £120 lump sum for each employee and 3% increases from July 1987 and January 1988 for workers at Sifco Turbine Components Limited. The recommendation was signed on 24 April 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union sought improved basic wages and higher status for workers who repaired aircraft parts. Sifco cited losses, currency changes and international competition as reasons to control costs, and said the general-operator arrangement had been agreed from the outset. The Court recommended that the workers accept the amended version of Sifco's offer. It did not recommend conceding the union's claim to change workers' status.
