In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that the employer's offer on restaurant overtime be accepted and did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's service-charge claim against Killarney Hotels Limited. The recommendation was signed on 9 February 1987. The union objected to casual staff wages being paid from the service-charge pool and sought a different distribution method. The Court found no compelling reason to change the arrangement, which it said seemed to operate favourably for all staff. The company's offer provided for overtime balances to be paid at the overtime rate on the next payday when time off was not possible.
