In 1986, the Labour Court recommended that the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union accept Wire Ropes Limited's monetary offer on a 26th wage round claim, amended to cover 15 months from 1 June. The recommendation was signed on 14 November 1986. The union had sought £15 a week and an extra day's annual leave for 13 manufacturing and dispatch workers at Wire Ropes Limited's Wicklow plant. The company offered a 5% increase over 12 months, saying production had fallen and the plant was operating at about a third of capacity. The Court also recommended an additional £2 a week from 1 December 1986, but did not recommend conceding the union's annual leave claim, noting the company's trading position.
