The Labour Court recommended that Irish Metals and Chemicals Limited amend its offer to provide 3% for six months and a further 3% under a one-year agreement for 32 general operatives. It recommended that the workers accept the offer and did not recommend the other claims. The recommendation was dated 22 October 1986. The Federated Workers' Union of Ireland had sought an 8% increase over 12 months and an extra day of annual leave; the company cited falling export shipments and its trading position in support of its phased 5% offer.
