The Labour Court has dismissed Colm Costello’s age discrimination appeal against the Technical University Of Dublin, finding he had not established a link between the rehire approval process and his age. The determination was signed on 6 January 2025. Costello said a requirement for Higher Education Authority approval to rehire retired staff prevented him from taking a short-term project. The university said it was willing to seek approval, but Costello did not agree to an application; the project did not proceed at TUD. The Court upheld the Adjudication Officer’s rejection of the complaint and made no award.
