The Labour Court increased Bozena Chamara’s compensation from €1,500 to €2,500 after finding breaches of rules on rest breaks and Sunday work. The determination was signed on 15 November 2011. Chamara appealed a Rights Commissioner decision that had awarded her €1,500. Barlow Properties Limited said she received a 10-minute break, free meals for Sunday work and paid days off for public holidays. The Court found the rest-break complaint well founded because she was given only a 10-minute break after working more than four and a half hours. It also found that free meals did not meet the requirement to compensate Sunday work. The public-holiday complaint was not well founded: records showed paid days off and Chamara confirmed this. The Court varied the earlier decision and awarded €2,500 for the rest-break and Sunday-work breaches.
