Labour Court recommends enhanced redundancy terms for crèche workers

The Labour Court recommended enhanced redundancy terms for childcare workers made redundant from a government-funded crèche in Lucan. The recommendation was signed on 15 November 2011. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union sought terms in line with practice in the education sector. County Dublin VEC said it was directed by the Department of Education and Skills and could not pay more than statutory entitlements. The Court said there was no justification for treating fixed-term employees less favourably than permanent public-sector employees who had received enhanced terms. It recommended six weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory redundancy terms.
