The Labour Court recommended changes to furnace staffing and working terms in a dispute between Waterford Crystal Limited and the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union. Its decision was signed on 21 December 1990. The Court set staffing at 24 furnace operatives in Kilbarry and eight each in Butlerstown and Dungarvan. It directed Waterford Crystal to make a further £34,000 payment to finalise the claim, after an agreed £34,000 on-account payment. The Court said the further payment set no precedent. The Court also said it would review average earnings for 23 permanent staff after the new arrangements had been in place for 12 months, to decide whether compensation was justified. It adopted the conciliation terms on Saturday work and recommended cooperation on health and safety provisions and a study.
