The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Karen McVeeney €5,500 after finding that her manager at Energie Fitness sexually harassed her and discriminated against her on the gender ground. In a decision dated 27 February 2026, adjudicator Catherine Byrne also awarded €2,112 because Belfort Capital Limited, trading as Energie Fitness, did not provide a full statement of employment terms until about 18 weeks into her job.

McVeeney alleged that manager Chris O’Donoghue made sexual remarks and shouted at her. The adjudicator upheld her sexual harassment and employment terms complaints, but found her unfair dismissal and penalisation complaints were not well founded because she had not communicated a complaint about wrongdoing to her employer.
