WRC rules it cannot hear Thiago Alves’s unfair dismissal complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission ruled it had no jurisdiction to hear Thiago Alves’s unfair dismissal complaint against Sse Renewables Holdings Ltd, finding it was filed outside the statutory time limit and he had not established reasonable cause for the delay. The decision was dated 8 May 2026. Alves argued that continued administrative contact, a delayed data access response and preparation for concurrent criminal proceedings contributed to the late filing. Sse Renewables Holdings Ltd denied the claim and argued that his dismissal took effect on 26 September 2024. The WRC ruled only on its jurisdiction; it did not decide whether the dismissal was unfair.
