The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Patrick Mannion €12,000 compensation after finding his selection for redundancy by Medicare Health & Living Ltd. was unfair. In a decision dated 29 April 2026, it also upheld two complaints over unpaid overtime, awarding €5,544.76 and €3,396.13, less lawful statutory deductions.
Mannion said the company had withheld pay for overtime and unfairly selected him for redundancy. The company said overtime needed advance approval and disputed the hours claimed; it also maintained that his position was redundant.
The adjudicator found the overtime had been worked and that the company had not given a written instruction to stop extra hours. On redundancy, the WRC found there had been no fair procedure or proper consultation and that Mannion’s position was singled out. It said the employment relationship had broken down and that both sides had failed to limit financial loss.
