WRC rejects HSE worker’s complaint over €900 illness-benefit deduction

The Workplace Relations Commission found David Doran’s complaint against the Health Service Executive over a €900 Social Welfare Illness Benefit deduction was not well-founded. Adjudication Officer Catherine Byrne dated the decision 11 November 2025. Doran said he received no notice that the amount had been deducted from his wages. The HSE said a late sick-leave entry meant the benefit had been missed in an earlier pay period and was deducted with the current amount. Byrne accepted that the deduction remedied the earlier omission and found it was permitted under the sick-pay arrangement.
