The Workplace Relations Commission awarded former cleaner Alcenio Augusto €3,000 after finding that he was discriminated against on the ground of race by Stillorgan Trading Post Ltd Dmc Foods. The decision, by adjudication officer Conor Stokes, was dated 9 March 2026.

Augusto said his supervisor repeatedly made racist remarks and that he was dismissed after raising concerns. The company said he was let go during probation because of performance and safety concerns. The adjudicator preferred Augusto’s evidence and accepted that he had been racially abused. He also found that the company had taken practicable steps to address the allegations, including offering an appeal and reinstatement while it investigated; Augusto did not take up either option. The adjudicator said an award of about €5,000 was appropriate before reducing it by 40% in light of those circumstances, leaving compensation of €3,000.
