The WRC declined jurisdiction over a chef’s seven employment complaints after finding his employment contract became illegal when his student visa and its Covid extension expired in 2022. The merits were not decided. The chef said he was unfairly dismissed and alleged he had not received a contract, adequate breaks or overtime pay, and that tips were distributed unfairly. The restaurant disputed the claims, while accepting that annual leave and public holiday pay was owed. Adjudication Officer Bríd Deering dated the decision 16 February 2026.
