WRC allows restaurant bartender’s redundancy appeal

The Workplace Relations Commission found Kannan Nagayindran’s redundancy complaint against Sage Restaurant well founded and allowed his appeal. The award was based on reckonable service from 7 July 2021 to 28 July 2024 and a gross weekly wage of €660, subject to the statutory cap of €600 and the insurable-employment condition. The decision was dated 6 February 2026. Nagayindran said the restaurant closed and no redundancy payment was made. Sage Restaurant did not appear at the hearing; it had emailed the WRC asserting that alternative work was offered, which Nagayindran disputed. The adjudicator found on the balance of probabilities that he was made redundant because the employer ceased the business.
