The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a worker €6,000 after finding that a manager’s public remark about his disability was humiliating and amounted to harassment. The decision, dated 2 December 2025, also directed the retail company to provide equality and disability awareness training for managers within six months.
The worker said his manager made a sarcastic remark about his disability while asking him to change a cardboard baler. The company denied harassment, saying it had received no formal request for accommodation, and said cuts to his hours were budget measures affecting staff generally.
The WRC found no discrimination in the worker’s hours and no failure to provide reasonable accommodation. The harassment complaint succeeded, while those other claims did not.
