The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Gerard Madden’s disability discrimination and reasonable-accommodation complaint against the Irish Prison Service. In a decision dated 2 December 2025, it found he had not established discrimination after technical problems disrupted a remote promotion interview. Madden said he was told he would get another interview but was not given the chance to repeat it. The Irish Prison Service said other candidates also had technical problems and were not invited back; it acknowledged he had mistakenly been told he would receive another opportunity. The adjudication officer found Madden had not established that he was covered by the Act’s disability protections or sought accommodation through the available process.
