WRC rejects bus escort’s unpaid wages complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Valerie McKenna’s complaint that The Board of Management of Donore National School failed to pay her for all hours worked. In a decision dated 5 September 2025, Adjudication Officer Brian Dolan found that her calculation included commuting time between home and the first and last stops, which was not working time under her contract. McKenna said her route change meant she worked 26 hours and 15 minutes weekly but was paid for 20 hours. The respondent said her hours varied with school transport needs and that travel to the first child and home from the last child was not work time.
