WRC rules Bernard Carroll’s unfair-dismissal complaint out of time

The Workplace Relations Commission ruled Bernard Carroll’s unfair-dismissal complaint against Freightspeed was outside the statutory time limit. It found the employment relationship ended in April 2022, while Carroll lodged his complaint on 14 October 2024. No redress was awarded. Carroll said he had agreed to take up to two years’ carer’s leave and that the employer had not told him his employment was ending. Freightspeed argued he remained an employee or had abandoned the job after taking work elsewhere during his leave. WRC Adjudication Officer Conor Stokes issued the decision, dated 12 February 2026.
