WRC rejects unfair-dismissal complaint after finding worker resigned

The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Brian Gillespie’s unfair-dismissal complaint against Rite Precision Engineering Ltd, finding it was reasonable for the company to assume he had resigned. Adjudication Officer Louise Boyle dated the decision 2 December 2025; no compensation was awarded. Gillespie said he had not intended to resign and that messages indicating he was leaving were sent while he was affected by an unrecognised brain injury. The company said he had resigned, collected his tools and did not seek to withdraw the resignation until later. The officer found that he had not engaged with the company to explain or retract it sooner.
