The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Murrays Ambulance Service to pay Nadine Reid €32,000 after finding she was discriminated against on the race ground when dismissed during probation. Adjudication Officer Shay Henry dated the decision 2 December 2025.
Reid alleged discrimination after she was dismissed following an incident in which she and another EMT facilitated a patient's request to smoke outside an ambulance. Reid said both had been involved, but her colleague received only a letter of concern. The service said facilitating the smoking created a health and safety hazard and denied any connection to race.
The officer found the difference in treatment, alongside the difference in race, established a presumption of discrimination. The service did not satisfy the officer that discrimination had not occurred. The officer also found Reid had not been told who made the complaint or given the chance to challenge that person's evidence.
