The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Iga Piotrowska €6,000 after finding that Sunny Sky Solarium Nails & Beauty Ltd unfairly dismissed her. The decision, dated 5 March 2025, said the company had not established gross misconduct or followed procedures to justify dismissal for cause.
Piotrowska said she was dismissed without warning, an investigation or a chance to respond. The company denied unfair dismissal; its owner said the decision followed concerns including impaired performance and alleged abuse of customers. The WRC found none of the allegations in the dismissal letter had been established.
The officer also criticised the employer’s reaction to anonymous online reviews, saying acting on potentially false or exaggerated accusations where their accuracy was in doubt amounted to unjust treatment. The decision said Piotrowska was denied the chance to work a notice period. In setting compensation, the officer considered her limited job-search efforts and a one-month spell working at Lidl.
