The Workplace Relations Commission allowed Martina Keating Hurley’s appeal and directed Paul Tucker, trading as Celtic Barbers, to pay her a statutory redundancy lump sum. The decision was dated 5 March 2025; the amount is to be calculated under the Redundancy Payments Act. Hurley said she had not received statutory redundancy after the business closed. The respondent did not appear at either hearing. The WRC allowed the appeal on the undisputed evidence, using her employment start date of 1 May 2007, notice received on 5 June 2024, termination on 2 July 2024 to account for eight weeks’ notice, and gross weekly pay of €178 for a 14-hour week.
