WRC declines to hear Traveller discrimination complaint against Love Laundry

By Donal Gilhooly

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Workplace Relations Commission declined jurisdiction over Olivia O' Brien's complaint that Love Laundry refused her access to its self-service machines because she is a member of the Traveller community. The decision, dated 24 March 2025, found that she had not shown reasonable cause to extend the deadline for giving notice.

O' Brien said she was refused access because of her community. Love Laundry said its employee would not serve her unless she apologised for accusing the employee of theft; the employee denied making a discriminatory remark. The WRC made no finding on whether discrimination occurred.
