The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Wayne Murphy’s age discrimination complaint over an unsuccessful application for an electrician position with ESB. Adjudication Officer Penelope McGrath said Murphy had not established discrimination; the decision was dated 8 April 2025. Murphy said he had more than 20 years’ experience as an electrician and suspected his age or an earlier dispute with ESB explained why he was not selected. ESB denied discrimination and said other candidates scored higher. The adjudicator noted that one successful candidate was also 47, and accepted evidence that age was not considered in the recruitment process.
