WRC awards Billy McCarthy €7,500 for unfair dismissal

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Piltown Engineering Limited unfairly dismissed Billy McCarthy and awarded him €7,500. McCarthy said the dispute began after he raised concerns that colleagues had received performance reviews while he had not. The company said he resigned voluntarily. The WRC found it failed to clarify his employment status after sending him home, and that he had not resigned at the 1 May 2024 meeting. It reduced the award because McCarthy made inadequate efforts to find work and contributed to events leading to his dismissal.
