The Workplace Relations Commission found that Martin Roche was not unfairly dismissed after he resigned from his school warden job at Tipperary County Council. Roche had alleged bullying and harassment and said a build-up of workplace grievances led him to leave.

Adjudication Officer Elizabeth Spelman dated the decision 19 February 2025. Roche said he feared further problems at work. The council denied his allegations and said he had not used its internal procedures. The officer found Roche had not substantially used the council’s grievance procedure: he did not follow up his telephone complaint or put his grievances in writing.

Roche also confirmed that his hours had not been reduced and that he was paid for 20 hours a week, including while on sick leave. He said he received full pay for 145 hours of accrued annual leave when he resigned. The WRC found the complaint was not well founded and made no compensation award.
