WRC rejects HSE employee’s civil-status pay complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission found Elizabeth O Connor’s civil-status discrimination complaint against The Health Service Executive was not well founded. The decision was dated 20 January 2025. The complaint concerned her house-porter role being excluded from a pay increase. O Connor said she was told the new role would retain her existing salary and shift allowance, and that the incorrect job grade limited her career and earnings. The HSE said there were no facts supporting an inference of discrimination. The adjudication officer noted the HSE did not dispute the pay difference but found no causal connection to O Connor’s civil status.
