The Workplace Relations Commission directed Winepoint Ltd trading as Winemason Ltd to pay Gareth Kirwan €1,500 after finding that deducting his entire final salary for training fees was unreasonable. Adjudication officer David James Murphy’s decision was dated 9 December 2024. The employer said Kirwan had agreed to repay the course fees if he left within a year of completing the course. The adjudicator found Kirwan left before completing it and that, while a deduction could have been permitted, taking the full salary was unreasonable when a payment plan was available.
