WRC rejects Patrick Lowbridge’s wage complaint against electrical firm

By Niamh Kearney

The Workplace Relations Commission found Patrick Lowbridge’s Payment of Wages Act complaint was not well founded. He had challenged a quarterly bonus, promised free TV and broadband, and a €870 deduction from his final wages for vehicle repairs. Lowbridge said bonus terms changed without his agreement and that he was €500 short in January 2024 pay. Philip King Electrical Ltd said bonuses depended on sales targets and the vehicle deduction was authorised. The adjudicator found Lowbridge did not meet the bonus criteria and that the €870 repair deduction was authorised under his employment terms and signed agreement. The WRC dated its decision 8 November 2024.
