The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Gerard Davin’s unfair-dismissal complaint, finding that he could not continue working as an HGV driver in Ireland without a valid Irish driving licence. The decision was dated 8 July 2024 by adjudication officer Niamh O’Carroll. Davin said he was let go after his employer lost a milk collection contract and argued he should have been made redundant. Martin Barnes Haulage Limited said it dismissed him because he had not exchanged his UK licence, despite being given opportunities to address the issue.
