A nail technician was awarded €3,600 after the Workplace Relations Commission found that Paris Lover Hair and Beauty penalised her for raising workplace concerns. The WRC also ordered compensation for failures over working-time notice and written employment terms, and gross pay under zero-hours rules.
Adjudication officer Eileen Campbell’s decision was dated 8 July 2024. Yanzi Ming said she had raised concerns about holiday pay, deductions, breaks and unclear working hours. The salon said holiday pay had been made available by postal order, hours depended on bookings, and it dismissed her over performance during probation.
The WRC found the timing of Ming’s concerns and dismissal indicated she had been penalised for asserting her rights. It ordered €3,600 compensation, €100 for inadequate notice of working times, €571.50 gross for three weeks without work, and €1,200 for not providing a contract. Her complaints about annual leave, public holidays and breaks were not well-founded.
