The Workplace Relations Commission found that Sysco Foods did not unfairly dismiss Victor Caraus after he failed to secure a valid Irish driving licence for his professional driving role. The decision was dated 12 July 2024. Caraus said he had a Romanian licence and alleged his dismissal was connected to a back injury. Sysco Foods said it followed his failure to obtain a valid licence. The WRC found he had ample notice and time to address the issue but took no action. It concluded he could not continue driving without contravening Irish law, so his complaint failed.
